“When the storms of life come, the wicked are whirled away. But the godly have a lasting foundation.” Proverbs 10:25
The racing season has officially started with the first two NASCAR races underway! Both races ended with a dramatic, wreck-filled finish and impacted the results of each race. This is not a far cry from how the last month has been in regular life due to politics, economics, and weather across the country and world. In the turmoil of life, it might seem like it will never get better, but our foundation is not in this world as Christians. Our foundation is rock solid because it is based on Christ.
Some NASCAR drivers and teams, such as Legacy Motor Club, have had great starts to their seasons, while others, like Kyle Busch, have had a rough start. Regardless of how their seasons started, everyone will have ups and downs. How those times are handled is what sets apart the winners from the losers in the end. Life works the same way. How we handle the roller coasters in our life sets us up for success or failure. When we try to fix everything ourselves, rely on our own strength, or cheat the processes in life, we will end up failing because we cannot control the outcomes. Only God can control all of life.
Proverbs 10:25 sets up this juxtaposition. When we trust in God, we will endure through life’s storms and the roller coaster’s ups and downs. He is the foundation for success, and when we trust in him as we continue working, praying, caring, for our families, and going through the daily rhythms of life, we come out of the storm alive. We may be bruised, battered, or shaken, but our foundation is still there. We can move forward because we are not in control. God is in control, and he has brought us through one wreck and will bring us through another. Ultimately we can emerge from the wrecks victorious, just as William Byron and Christopher Bell did the last two weeks.
