“This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him. For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease. He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.” Psalms 91:2-4 NLT
Zane Smith took a wild ride at Kansas Speedway on Sunday when his car went up on its side and rode the wall. Afterwards, it flipped twice down the racetrack and ended with a scraped floor and mangled tires. Thankfully, he was okay from the incident, but I can only imagine what he was thinking as he was riding close to the track surface on the car’s side!
Does it seem like life leaves you like Smith’s car sometimes? Mangled, scraped, turned upside down by the circumstances you are facing? You’re not the only one. Today’s current events, plus financial, health, relational, and work circumstances leave many of us feeling exhausted, hopeless, uncertain, or anxious. Where can we run when life is taking us for a ride? The psalmist has an answer for us.
When everything seems like it’s crashing down, we can trust in God. Through uncertainty, danger, fear, and hopeless circumstances he promises to be with us and help us. In Psalms 91, he promises to be our shelter and our protection. Just as the safety equipment, body, and roll cage protected Zane Smith as his car tumbled around, God protects his children when life’s circumstances take them for a ride. While the ride might last longer than Zane Smith’s, we can trust in God to bring us through whatever we are facing.
