“Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.” Ephesians 5:15-17 NIV
Corey Heim made the most of the inaugural street race at Coronado Naval Base with his first Cup win of his career. After a mid-race exit from favorite Shane Van Gisbergen, the door to victory was wide open for anyone who could get up front. In the end, Heim and Reddick fought it out for the win, and after the battle left Reddick with a cut tire, Heim seized the victory! In the post-race interview, he said that he was looking forward to this race because it was a “level playing field” since the other drivers had never raced this course as well. He made the most of the opportunity he was given, and it brings great momentum and anticipation to the start of his full-time Cup career in 2027.
Heim’s mindset of making the most of this opportunity to race experienced Cup drivers in an equal setting reminds me of how we should live in this world as we follow Christ. In Ephesians 5, Paul tells us to make the most of every opportunity we have to represent Christ in this life. While this world is not equal, evil and goodness do not play on an equal ground, we can be wise and seek to live for God even when evil surrounds us. Paul tells us to understand what God’s will is, which is to live for his glory every day. Living foolishly does not bring glory to God, but acting wisely despite the evil around us does bring him glory.
Do your words, thoughts, and actions represent God well, no matter what you may be facing in your life? Would you describe your most recent decisions and actions as wise or foolish? How can you make the most of the opportunities God gives you each day to show others who he is and what he has done in your life?
